A POTTED HISTORY OF CP THEATRE PRODUCTIONS
CP Theatre Productions (CPTP) is the trading name of Chelsea Players, a theatre company and a registered charity, based in London.
Our productions encompass new writing, gritty contemporary drama and comedy.
Chelsea Players was founded as an amateur dramatic society in the 1960s and enjoyed a 25-year residency at London's Chelsea Theatre until 2000.
From 2001, CPTP evolved into a touring theatre company. Each production is now staged at a theatre suitable for it; we continue to perform at the Barons Court Theatre, Fulham; the Putney Arts Theatre, Putney; the Landor Theatre, Clapham and the John McIntosh Centre, Fulham, and recently debuted at the White Bear, Kennington and the Old Red Lion, Islington.
The company's Edinburgh Fringe debut in 2004 with the European premiere of Australian comedy Milo's Wake marked a new high in the short history of the new company; we've returned to the Fringe over the subsequent four years.
The organisation is run on a non-profit basis. To better reflect the level of professionalism we strive for in each show, the name of the theatre company was changed from Chelsea Players to CP Theatre Productions in September 2006.
Media coverage of our shows online and offline continues to grow. Our productions are regularly listed in the fringe sections of the national, regional and local press and reviewed in an increasingly varied range of publications. Our directors and actors have been interviewed in print and online press.
The company's constitution guides the Board, each member of which is elected from the membership bi-annually to manage the company.
Everyone involved in a CPTP show becomes a member of the company if they are not already. As our shows are entirely staffed in-house, our members include writers, producers, directors, set designers, lighting and sound operators, directors, producers, stage managers, costumiers, visual artists, publicity assistants, front of house staff, enthusiastic audience members and of course actors.
In collaboration with our venues we arrange acting, writing and technical workshops for our members, who also benefit from a raft of social events held throughout the year.
