PRODUCTION NOTES
Well, I'm glad I came, it's a great play and all my friends are here. Agoraphobia is a general term applied to many phobias and obsessional behaviours. It affects many men and women - from mild panic attacks to a petrifying fear that something terrible is about to happen.
These feelings can follow a traumatic event. Those with the strongest reactions may withdraw to the safest place - home. They may stay there dependent on others for the rest of their life.
Many people at some time have experienced panic attacks yet most would not claim to know any agoraphobics or understand their symptoms. The comedy in Bazaar and Rummage is not derived from laughing at agoraphobics - it comes from the characters, who happen to be agoraphobic, stuck in a room. As with any group, different roles (leader, rebel, clown, etc.,) are played by the characters. During the play these roles change.
